Harry H Mason, the 19th circuit clerk of Sangamon County, was born on December 16, 1873 in McLean County, IL.  He was the son of James A and Lovenia F Mason. As a young man, journalism sparked his interest, which resulted in an eleven year career with a newspaper called the Delevan Advertiser. In 1903, Mason became the owner of the Pawnee Herald; Mason supported newspaper journalism throughout his life, serving as an active member of the Central Illinois Press Association and spending 8 of those years of service as President.

Mr. Mason was a very active and dedicated democrat. He was “prominent in the ranks of Illinois Democracy”, which was proven on November 6, 1934, the day he was elected as a representative in Congress. Mason had extensive influence in the community, which can be credited to his involvement as a Democratic Party worker and leader, his time spent as county treasurer, and as a journalist “on the side of progress and constructive effort”.

Mason was the successor to County Treasurer Charles L Koehn, another former circuit clerk. Mason was married to Mabel Pennoyer of Springfield on August 17, 1912.  He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was an ordained ruling elder in the church. Mason continued to work in the community as the President of the Board of Education in Pawnee, Illinois.
